Bangkok Trip 2014 - Wat Arun

Wat Arun that is situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River is one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok.

I chose the cheapest method to get to Wat Arun. I took a sky train to Saphan Taksin Station where the Central Pier is located. From there, I bought a boat ticket to Tha Thien Pier which cost 40 Baht. At Tha Thien Pier I transit to a smaller boat which takes me to Wat Arun. The ride cost me only 3 Baht.

Below is an image of the boat that takes me to Tha Thien Pier. The boat is spacious and equipped with the necessary life vests. Thus, it is safe! It is interesting looking at the boat men at work.

Upon parking, the crew at the stern blows a whistle to signal to the captain on how to manoeuvre the boat. Then he hops onto the jetty to secure the boat allowing the passengers to alight. Then, he hops back onto the boat and signals the captain to continue to the next pier. The whole operation goes very smoothly from pier to pier.

I was greeted with some guardian statues when I touched down on Wat Arun. It was soon filled with tourists taking photos with the statues and the structure. Next, I proceed to Wat Arun which cost me 50 Baht entrances fee.

I was taken by the structure and design of Wat Arun. It's simply stunning. The ferocious god sculptures together with some flowers and textures made up Wat Arun. I love the depth and details of the temple.

The stairs up Wat Arun are very steep, especially the at 2nd tier. Do watch your steps as you scale up Wat Arun. Use the railings at the sides to guide you. It's always easier to get up rather then going down. Most of us are intimated by the height and steepness while coming down.

At the top of Wat Arun, there is a yellow cloth wrapping around the middle of the temple. I saw blessings and wishes being written on it. Guess what, I caught a lady in action writing her wishes on the cloth. Do bring your own markers or pens.

The view from the top of Wat Arun is beautiful. You could see Chao Phraya River from above and the ferries cruising through. Chao Phraya River is a major river in Thailand that flows through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand.

Below are some photos I took during my tour at Wat Arun. I love the symmetrical patterns of the temple. It's one of my favourite photos that I took. The image is sharp and filled with details. I'm quite proud of myself HAHA! Enough of self praise. Enjoy the photos folks! Do follow me on Flickr for more beautiful photos =)
