Getaway in Penang - Batik Factory

Batik is a cloth that is traditionally made using a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Batik was said to be originated from Java.

I was introduced to batik painting and the processing of batik fabrics in the Batik factory. I was briefly told the history of batik and how they process and made the paintings.

They are two types of batik painting. One of it is Block Print Batik. Block Print Batik uses a block mould to transfer molten wax onto the fabric creating designs on both sides of the fabric.

The other type is the Hand Drawn Batik. Hand Drawn Batik as the name suggest, the patterns are drawn and coloured by hand. Thus, this way allows exclusive designs. Similarly, the design is sketch out using a pencil. Next, molten wax is traced on the design using a Canting. Then, coloured dye are applied to the design including the background.

Lastly, let me end off with a quote:

"Your life is a canvas.. Make sure you paint yourself a whole lot of colourful days."
