Last Friday, a wild boar wandered out of the forest and charged at a security guard and a five-year-old boy at Bishan Park. The reasons as to why the wild boar moved to our urban area is still unclear.
One of the reasons might be an overpopulation of them. However, Mr Ong Say Lin, a research student from the department of Biological Sciences at the NUS, emphasize that it does not necessarily mean an overpopulation but does not rule out that possibility.
To better understand wild boars, Mr Ong has put in place more than 30 camera traps to track the animals. He has also published his research findings on a website and a Facebook page.
What do you do in a wild boar attack?
I was told during my nation service that when a wild boar charges at you, you try to run in a zig-zag manner. I did not get charged by any wild boar so I do not know if the method is effective.
The link below is a thread from a forum which suggests things you could do if a wild boar were to attack you.
